Due to the hyacinth on the water at the dam , it was decided that it would not be safe to allow the children to swim, so our first event was at 09:30 and not at 08:00 as planned, it was also a close call as to whether it would be safe enough for the main event. After launching the IRB, and checking the conditions, we decided to let a couple of our lifeguards swim about 200m to check if the hyacinth would affect the swimmers. It was decided that this would not be the case, and that it would be safe to allow the swim to continue.
The ladies started at 09:30, and all of them finished the swim. At 09:40 the men started, and as usual the start of the mens event was when we needed to be the most vigilant, as shortly after the start, our lifeguards were called into action. At 09:45 the teams started.
During these events we rescued 14 athletes and brought them safely to shore. Next week we will be at Sun City for the 11 Global Triathlon.
