Our diligent lifeguards had an early rise this morning, we met at our meeting point at 05:00, and then left for the Vaal river. Upon arrival, our lifeguards immediately got to work, preparing the equipment while our fantastic caterers started preparing breakfast. Once everything was ready, a pre-patrol briefing was held, and then we were on the water. The first event was a 1.9 km swim. Shortly after the start we had some athletes that decided that they did not want to swim in wetsuits, so we assisted them in removing them so that they could continue their race. There were two rescues during this race, and our lifeguards assisted a few athletes who considered leaving the water, but then continued with the race. The second event was a 600 m swim, and again there were two rescues. Our lifeguards once again patrolled in an absolutely professional manner. Once the patrol was over, the equipment was packed up, and the lifeguards were offered some very tasty chicken that had been braaied while they were on the water. Thanks to all the lifeguards that patrolled this event, this was yet another job very well done.
