Because this event starts at 07:00, and is so far from home, we decided that we would travel up the day before and camp at the Bakgatla camp site, close to Sun City. This was a great idea, as everyone had a fantastic time. After setting up camp some of the lifeguards went for a swim and had a great time at the pool, while other decided to watch the rugby on a big screen TV at the camp site (well done to the Bulls).
After the rugby Fernando and Mike cooked supper, while Michele and Natalie took care of the salads. Supper was great and then we socialized a bit before retiring for the night. At 05:00 Sunday morning the management team was up and preparing breakfast, then the lifeguards got up and after breakfast (we are still waiting for Kegan to do the dishes) we left for Sun City (Shortly after 06:00).
During the patrol we rescued 2 athletes, and then afterwards Easterns treated the lifeguards to spending the rest of the day at the vally of the waves (thanks to the Vermaak family who assisted with getting some of the lifeguards in at no cost to Easterns). All the lifeguards had a great time, and from a management point of view they were a pleasure to look after.
