Requirements:
1) Candidates must be a member of an affiliated club of the Association
2) Candidate must hold the Lifeguard Award (or SPA) or Qualifying Certificate for at least 24 months before applying for an Instructor’s Award, during which time, the
3) Candidate must affirm they have successfully instructed, without assistance from anyone, at least 12 candidates over a period of 2 years with at least 8 candidates being for the LA award. These candidates may not have previously attempted the LA award.
4) The candidate instructor must be present for the entire duration of the test of the candidates he/she has instructed
5) Candidates may be asked to perform any of the requirements of the LA examination
6) Candidates may be asked to perform a demonstration lesson or short lecture to the class on any subject in the syllabus

7) Examiners must satisfy themselves that the candidate can do as well, as teach, the various drills and techniques of the Lifeguard award syllabus and they can ask the Instructor to perform any, or all of the requirements (with the exception of an Instructor holding only QC award). It is strongly recommended that he/she be requested to instruct the squad on an item of drill,etc, demonstrating by performing the movements in practical lifesaving or CPR.
Note: On confirmation of the Instructor Award the Instructor will be required to instruct a class within a 2-year period and also attend any instructional updates/conferences as presented within a 2 year period in order to retain the status of this award.
